Natalie Grant

July 28, 2009

There are three subjects that get my attention, (1) Weddings, (2) Surfing & (3) Concerts. I’ve recently began covering local bands and pasting them here but Sunday night I found myself in front of an artist I’ve never heard of. GMA’s reigning Female Vocalist of the Year for two consecutive years. Natalie Grant is an amazing vocalist and I guess I spend a lot of my time under a rock! She and her band did two shows which may not have been full to capacity, but if you didn’t go – you missed out. Thanks to Tom Kefurry of the California Mid State Fair for the access. I hope you enjoy viewing the images as much as I did shooting them.

Brianna & Josh

July 26, 2009

Hi, I’m uncle bob!
Actually, I’m Brianna’s uncle Pat and my brother is her uncle Bob so that’s very funny.
In the wedding photography business, “uncle bobs” have a dubious reputation. They are so named for being family/friends of the couple who bring their cameras and notoriously get in the way of the hired gun. So, as a camera toting family member, I would officially be considered an uncle bob. However, I stayed out of the way. I don’t think the photographer even knew I was there!
Brianna’s dad had something to do with obtaining the venue and although I don’t know exactly his connection, Tiber Canyon Ranch was a fantastic place for a small to medium sized wedding. The ranch is situated on 50 acres of oak and manzanita woodland nestled in the hills between the Pacific Ocean and the Edna Valley wine growing region of San Luis Obispo county. Known for it’s fantastic olive oil, Tiber Canyon Ranch’s olive groves are maintained using sustainable farming practices wihout petrochemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. My sister in law Katy claims the oil is “incredible”. Please get to know these kind folks and give them a visit.
Apparently, Brianna did most of the decorations herself and if she ever gets the “calling” this could be her profession. Fantastic job! Josh, although I’m sure you know better than anyone, not only is your new bride beautiful, she is extremely creative as well.
The only hitch was a rented oven that failed us. Not to worry, we were in the very capable hands of Chef Carol Laquinta. The meal Carol and her staff prepared was amazing. The vegan alternative was, according to my wife Cathy, “wonderful” and I can’t say enough about how great the service was. The delay was minimal, and the attention to detail from both our hosts at Tiber Canyon and Carol’s crew made up for any wait we had. I highly recommend her so look up
Roasted Red Pepper Chef & Catering for your next event. You’ll be glad you did.

Stephanie & Nicholas

July 19, 2009

It’s not everyday that you end up at a wedding and the photograher just can’t go on due to illness. Chris & Mary Knight had every intention of going the distance but Chris was not going to make it no matter how determined he was. Fortunately for Stephanie and Nicholas, Chris was able to fulfill 99% of his goal. If I was him, I’d have been in a fetal position in my bed .. Chris you are THE MAN!
I shot the first dance and the cake cutting but then had to go as well to a family shoot at the beach. Chris’ dedication through the day and his profesionalism was inspring – not that I intend to follow in his foot steps any time soon. For a quick peek at what I had time to do look here.
Congratulations Stephanie and Nicholas on a perfect day, supportive friends and a loving family. You couldn’t have had a better start to your wonderful life.

Purdy Family

July 19, 2009

What a clan!
With birthdates proudly displayed upon their shirts, this is one happy group of campers. Homer and his wife Sandy have three children and “just a few” grandlkids. He’ll be officiating a wedding I’m shooting next month and pastors the local Templeton Assembly of God. He’s a great preacher, pastor, grandpa and friend.
Sandy just recently had knee surgery and IS recovering. I dragged them all down to the beach at shelter cove in Shell Beach. We are talking mega steps and a very steep incline. You can see the “stairs” behind them on the left side. Sandy, you deserve a medal for that climb.
It was a lot of fun shooting this awesome family – they are an inspring testimony to God’s love.
Thanks guys for the great day.
