Time Off:

June 27, 2010

I’ve been putting in the hours like crazy and finally have caught up. Sorta …
That means I haven’t taken any time off lately. So now I am.
We all get too busy and it’s amazing how things sometimes never seem to get done (why doesn’t anybody else care?). I’m reminded of Covey’s book about “important/urgent” “not important/not urgent” etc. So the other day I noticed this incredible sunset (we get them often cuz we live so close to God’s country) and went out back to snap a shot. And there was our little richard. Oblivious to the sunset, the price of tea and anything else that we humans find so critical. I set up the shot, put my camera on AUTO everything and just snapped. He suddenly decided I was interesting and stood up and stretched … snap!
Hm … I think I’ll go and take a nap.
snap!

Today I begin my “photo of the day” posts. This is to remind me that life is not always about wedding photography although I will not shy away from adding an image from a “job”. My intent is to share not so much beautiful well executed images but rather the heart of why I’m a photographer. Clearly, I am no writer. However, I will do my best to put into words my “feelings” about the moments that resulted in the images I post. Here is day one ….
"Gesture"
This image is far from perfect. I didn’t take the time to get it right I just wanted to catch the interaction between these three diners. The diner just happens to be the legendary Jay Maisel. World renowned photographer. He had just given a talk that late afternoon and I just happened to catch him at the hotel afterwards. It’s not everyday you get to hear a legend teach about something that you get to practice on them! For me this was an amazing day!

Lisa & Aaron

January 24, 2010

I’m loving the vineyards as they turn dark at the seasons end. Couldn’t ask for a better landscape for folks in love. Ah … love is in the air.
Lisa and Aaron are from “down south” so their Avila wedding will be a destination affair. These two have quite a fire burning between them. It’s hard not to notice their connection. After some brief tasting at one of my favorite tasting rooms, we enjoyed the warm afternoon in the bright sunshine. I love Avila and look forward to the awesome opportunities that await us. Surf, sun and sand gotta make sure I bring my sunscreen.
